The Heart and Other Organ Systems
Robert M. Califf
Introduction
Cardiovascular specialists are often consulted to evaluate patients with diseases that emanate from organ systems remote from the heart but with substantial cardiac manifestations. At some point the cardiovascular system becomes a factor in most major systemic diseases. In this section, commonly encountered problems involving an interaction of the heart and other organ systems are reviewed. The goal is to focus on the cardiovascular manifestations of these problems without providing a comprehensive review of the illnesses per se.
