Right atrial thrombus in patients with hemodialysis central venous catheters
Aims
Data regarding right atrial thrombus (RAT) in patients with prolonged use of hemodialysis central venous catheters are scarce. We studied the clinical and echocardiographic findings and the management of CVC-RAT.
Methods
We screened 43 and 50 patients with CVC in two consecutive years. Screening was made using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) every 6 months or whenever clinically indicated. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) was performed whenever indicated after TTE, and whenever a mass is seen.
