Left main stenting using drug-eluting stents: long term outcome in an unselected cohort of patients from a tertiary medical center stratified by Syntax scoring

Background

The Syntax score has been shown to be a predictor of outcomes in patients with left main (LM) coronary artery disease treated with drug eluting stents (DES). In this study, we evaluate the long term outcome of LM stenting from a single tertiary medical center in an unselected cohort of patients stratified by Syntax scoring.

Methods

A total of 123 patients with significant unprotected left main coronary artery disease underwent DES placement between May 2003 and June 2010. Patients were followed for a mean of 824.9 ± 700.6 days. Data were extracted by review of medical and office records and death certificates. The primary end point of the study was target lesion revascularization (TLR). Descriptive analysis was performed on all variables using mean ± SD for continuous variables and percentages for dichotomous variables. Univariate analysis was used to compare the groups that required TLR versus none. Kaplan Meier curves were constructed for the duration of the follow up. Data were stratified by Syntax scoring.
