The Good Books from the editor columns were initially published in 1986 and have appeared annually since that time. In 1985, a total of 16 books were received and discussed in the 1986 column. As shown in the accompanying figure ( Figure 1 ), the number of books received rose to a peak in 1993 when 81 books were received and reviewed in the 1994 column. Since that time the number of books received yearly has slowly but steadily decreased such that in 2015 only 22 books were received and all were commented on. It appears that the number of medical books published yearly is decreasing, and publishers apparently are not sending out copies of the books published to medical journals for review. Although I love books, I now often go initially to Google for medical information and then to books and journals.

Lanzer P, editor. PanVascular Medicine , Second Edition, Volumes 1-5. Heidelberg: Springer 2015:5004, $549.00.
The first edition of PanVascular Medicine was edited by Peter Lanzer and Eric J. Topol and it appeared in 2002. That first edition contained 1,941 pages and cost $199.00. That book had 133 chapters by 300 contributors. This second edition (2015) was edited by Peter Lanzer alone and consists of 5 separate volumes, which altogether weigh 26 pounds, and contain 208 chapters in 5,004 pages contributed by 405 authors. These volumes are beautifully prepared and contain an enormous quantity of information. Surely every vascular specialist, whether cardiologist, cardiac surgeon, vascular surgeon, or radiologist would be pleased to own these 5 volumes. The problem is cost: the 5 volumes cost $549.00! Peter Lanzer deserves enormous credit for pulling the 5 volumes together.

Topol EJ, Teirstein PS, editors. Textbook of Interventional Cardiology . 7 th Edition. Philadelphia: Elsevier 2016:1081. $249.30.
Cardiovascular Intervention is one of the 15 or so “companions” to Braunwald’s Heart Disease . The book contains 36 chapters provided by 66 authors, 431 figures, and 116 tables. Each page is fully packed as in the Braunwald’s Heart Disease book. The Textbook of Interventional Cardiology edited by Topol/Teirstein is also a terrific book. Just like the Bhatt book, each page is fully packed. Just as does the Bhatt book, there is a large video content also. Both of these books are beautifully done and at least one of them should be in the possession of all interventional cardiologists.

Jaski BE. The 4 Stages of Heart Failure . Minneapolis: Cardiotext 2015:316, $84.60.
In the tradition of the other companion books to Braunwald’s Heart Disease , the Mann/Felker book is a splendid one. For those working in the field of advanced heart failure, this is a must book. It is a full textbook covering all facets of heart failure. It contains 47 chapters contributed by exactly 100 authors. The Jaski book is much smaller, soft cover, and written by a single person. Although this book is well illustrated and quite readable the Mann/Felker book is far more comprehensive and worthy of its cost.
