The incidence of stent placement “error” with stenting of coronary aorto-ostial disease

Background

The percutaneous treatment of aorto-ostial stenoses is challenging. There is a paucity of data regarding the success of accurately positioning stents in the aorto-ostial location.

Methods

We retrospectively reviewed the diagnostic and interventional angiograms of 100 consecutive patients treated with stent implantation of native coronary artery or bypass graft aorto-ostial stenotic (>50%) lesions. Stent placement was assessed by two film reviewers as too distal, too proximal (>1 mm distal or proximal to the ostium, respectively) or optimal.
