The benefit of CRT was illustrated in a meta-analysis of 14 randomized, controlled trials that included 4420 patients [1]. The following benefits of CRT were noted: (1) greater likelihood of improving at least one NYHA class; (2) improvements in the 6-minute walk distance and quality of life; (3) reduced rate of hospitalization for HF; and (4) reduction in all-cause mortality due to fewer deaths from progressive heart failure.
The indications for CRT are (1) patients with LV ejection fractions ≤35%; (2) a QRS duration ≥120 ms; and (3) NYHA functional class III or ambulatory class IV symptoms with optimal medical therapy [2].
