Background
Coronary computerized tomographic angiography (CTA) is being increasingly utilized in roles previously performed by cardiac catheterization, particularly for coronary artery imaging in low-risk patients with atypical symptoms or suspected false-positive exercise stress tests. Anomalous coronary arteries are often found on cardiac catheterization in younger patients with atypical presentations and few risk factors for atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. Consequently, many cases of coronary anomalies previously diagnosed by cardiac catheterization may now be detected by coronary CTA.
Objective
The objective was to review the incidence of anomalous coronary arteries incidentally discovered by cardiac catheterization before and after implementation of a coronary CTA program.
