Randomized comparison of intracoronary eptifibatide vs. intracoronary tirofiban in primary percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute anterior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction

Objectives

The aim of this study was to compare the intracoronary (IC) double bolus of eptifibatide and IC high bolus dose of tirofiban as adjuncts to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with anterior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Background

GP IIb IIIa inhibitors improve the outcome in primary PCI. IC bolus of GP IIb IIIa inhibitors results in high local drug concentrations and may be more effective than a standard intravenous (IV) bolus. It remains unclear which of the two available GP IIb IIIa inhibitors in Egypt would be of great benefit when used as IC bolus.
