PP-104 Sertraline and P Wave Dispersion in Patients with Depression

Objective

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors might prolong the QT interval on elelctrocardiogram and rarely lead to cardiac arrhythmias. Increased P-wave dispersion have been reported to be related with increased risk for atrial fibrillation Our aim is to find if sertraline use has an effect on P wave dispersion in patients with depression.

Methods

A total of 151 patients were enrolled. Of these patients, 76 patients (mean age = 37±5 years) had the diagnosis of major depression. Total 75 health subjects (mean age = 36±5 years) were enrolled as the control group. The patients with depression were prescribed sertraline 50 mg/day for eight weeks. A standard 12-lead electrocardiogram was recorded for each subject in the treatment and control groups at baseline and at week eight. P wave dispersion was calculated as the difference between maximum P-wave duration and minimum P-wave duration.
