Health can be considered as biopsychosocial wellbeing. Various personality types had been linked to certain health outcomes. High level of expressed anger is a significant independant risk factor for coronary disease. Goals of this study were, the evaluation of the rate of type A and B personality among heart failure patients and defining the most common components of the anger in the heart failure group compared to controls.
Material-Methods
50 patients(38 male and 12 females) with documented heart failure on echocardiography and 50(32 male 18 females) and subjects with normal cardiac function had been enrolled in our study. Patients with psychiatric disease, severe hepatic disease, severe renal failure or advenced pulmonary disease were excluded. We used the ERCTA –TR scale to identify the individuals with A type personality. Anger profiles were assessed using the STAXI2-TR index. A chi-squared test, Independent Samples “t” test, One-way, ANOVA, Post-hoc test and Mann -Whitney test had been used for comparision. SPSS.20 was used for statistical analysis.
Results
Patients with heart failure had more often type A and and high type A personality compared to control group (p<0.001)(Figure). On comparison of clinical anger scores, S-Ang/F and AX-Con-In scores were higher in patients compared to healthy subjects(p=0.016, 0.012 respectively). Among women, S-Ang/F, AX/Con-Out ve AX/Con-In anger scores were higher in heart failure patients compared to control group (0.035, 0.025, 0.018). But no significant difference was observed among male individuals (p<0.05).
