OP-056 Serum Galectin- 3 Levels Are Associated With Epicardial Adipose Tissue Thickness in Atrial Fibrillation Patients

Objective

Role of Galectin- 3 as a marker of myocardial fibrosis has been established in previous studies. Recently, Galectin-3 has also been reported to be associated with atrial fibrillation (AF), in which atrial fibrosis is accepted as the hallmark structural change in the atria. Relying on the previously documented relationship between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness and presence of AF, in this study we aimed to investigate the relationship between serum Galectin- 3 levels and EAT thickness.

Methods

Patients with AF who were scheduled for cryoballoon- based ablation and underwent multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) prior to ablation and control subjects with no prior history of AF who underwent MDCT for suspicion of coronary artery disease and documented to have no disease were included. Serum Galectin- 3 levels were evaluated by ELISA in peripheral venous blood samples.
