OP-043 Quality of Life After Endovascular Repair Versus Open Surgery for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Objective

Although endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) has been recognized as less invasive than open surgical repair (OSR), only few outcome studies have closely examined the quality of life factors through a validated survey tool. The purpose of this study was to assess the physical and mental health-related quality of life measures in patients undergoing OSR or EVAR for AAA, using the Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form 36-Item (SF-36) tool.

Methods

From January 2009 to November 2014, 40 elective cases were randomized prospectively enrolled. The SF-36 questionnaire was completed through interviews for 15 patients undergoing OSR and 25 patients undergoing EVAR. Health survey was evaluated preoperatively and then 1 week, 1 month, 3 month and 6 months postoperatively. Patient demographics, procedural details, postoperative follow-up data, and SF-36 scores were compared between groups.
