Native Aortic Valve Organized Thrombosis

Treatment

Aortic valve replacement was performed. Patient recovered well. The pathological diagnosis was aortic valve leaflets with organized thrombus.

Discussion

Native aortic valve thrombus formation is extremely rare. This event occasionally develops after cardiac catheterization, heart valve disease, infective endocarditis or as a hypercoagulative state as in antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Our case had history of fever and claudication. The thrombi on aortic valve may be a result of infective endocarditis, causing the embolism in the left lower extremity.
