KP-004 Combined use of Cryoballoon and Radiofrequency Ablation for Treatment of Long-Standing Persistent Atrial Fibrillation: A single Center Experience




Background


Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is a safe and effective treatment modality for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. However, its effectiveness was questionable in long standing persistent atrial fibrillation (LSPAF).




Objective


The purpose of this study was to evaluate a combined approach using a cryoballoon for treatment of PVI and focal radiofrequency (RF) for complex fractioned atrial electrograms (CFAEs).

Methods


Nineteen patients with LSPAF were included in the study. PVI initially was performed with a cryoballoon. Left atrial (CFAEs) then were ablated using an open irrigated RF catheter. Finally, linear ablations using the RF catheter were performed.
