- 3.
Katritsis DG, Gersh BJ, Camm AJ. Clinical Cardiology: Current Practice Guidelines. Oxford: Oxford University Press 2013:737, $115.00.
The Chatterjee 2-volume book is the first major cardiologic textbook to appear in some time. It is fully packed (maximal content per page) and well illustrated. I see no need for the subtitle (“An Illustrated Textbook”). The Rosendorff book is in its third edition, less than half the length of the Chatterjee volumes, contains far fewer color illustrations, but nevertheless is “reasonably comprehensive.” The Katritsis soft-cover book is a rather concise guide to most cardiovascular conditions with the most recent guidelines in a summarized tabulated format.
Heart Failure
- 4.
Semigran MJ, Shin JT, editors. Heart Failure. Second Edition. Boca Raton: CRC Press 2013:487, $205.48.
- ∗5.
Morgan JA, Naka Y, editors. Surgical Treatment for Advanced Heart Failure. New York: Springer 2013:199, $189.00.
The Semigran-Shin book, a second edition of the one which appeared 5 years earlier, is comprehensive except for discussions of left and right ventricular assist devices and cardiac transplantation. The Morgan-Naka book fills in that void.

Congenital Heart Disease
- 6.
Moodie DS, editor. Clinical Management of Congenital Heart Disease from Infancy to Adulthood. Minneapolis: cardiotext 2014:378, $129.00.
- 7.
Richardson RR, editor. Atlas of Pediatric Cardiac CTA. Congenital Heart Disease. New York: Springer 2013:128, $139.00.
The Moodie, although shorter than many of the older textbooks on congenital heart disease, is well done and easily readable. The small (128 pages) Richardson book focuses entirely on cardiac computed tomographic angiography in congenital heart disease. The images are beautiful—many in color—but much space is wasted.
Electrocardiography and Electrophysiology

Wagner GS, Strauss DG. Marriott’s Practical Electrocardiography. Twelfth Edition. Philadelphia: Wolters Kluwer|Lippincott Williams & Wilkins 2014:532, $99.99.

Levine GN. Arrhythmias 101. The Ultimate Easy-to-Read Introductory Book to Arrhythmias. New Delhi: Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers 2013:98, $36.00.
- 11.
Abedin Z. Essential Cardiac Electrophysiology. The Self-Assessment Approach. Second Edition. Chichester, West Sussex, UK: Wiley-Blackwell 2013:511, $69.95.
The Wagner-Strauss book is the 12th edition started years ago by Henry J.L. Marriott. If one buys a single book on electrocardiography this is the one to purchase. The electrocardiograms are displayed as Marriott did originally—no wasted space—with the various complexes in black on pink-blocked paper. The Podrid book focuses entirely on conduction abnormalities. The 104-page Levine book displays the electrocardiograms in easy-to-read fashion but despite its attractive format much space is wasted. The Abedin second edition is a single-authored book which provides the basics of electrophysiology.
