A major reason for founding the American Society of Echocardiography was to provide education in cardiovascular ultrasound to maximize the skills of its practitioners. This mission remains as important as ever 39 years later as our field evolves at lightning speed around the world. Today I want to review ASE’s extraordinary efforts in education, especially our new web-based and hands-on learning opportunities.
JASE
Every month when the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography ( JASE ) lands in your mailbox or inbox, education has arrived. Members often let us know that JASE helps them do their job better. Throughout the year, JASE offers opportunities for all of our members to obtain free CME credit. The September 2013 issue of JASE included three seminal Guidelines ; two offered a CME opportunity. Editor-in-chief Alan S. Pearlman, MD, FASE, wrote in a JASE editorial that you may not be always able to travel to an educational meeting, but with JASE , you are continually at an educational meeting.
ASEUniversity.org —Web-Based Education
As times have changed and money for travel to educational meetings has become scarce, ASEUniversity.org has increased its offerings of on-demand sessions to include purchasable captured conference content and free members-only content developed exclusively for ASEUniversity.org . Members who cannot make it to education conferences, such as ASE’s Scientific Sessions or ASCeXAM/ReSACE Review Courses, can still access that wealth of knowledge by purchasing captured presentations by ASE’s incredible speakers on topics relevant to all cardiovascular ultrasound subsets—including pediatric, fetal, adult, interventional, ED echo, and more. This online benefit allows members to pick from a wide variety of sessions and take advantage of the 15-20 free hours of CME provided each year with ASE membership.
