Words of Gratitude for Travel Grants to the ASE Annual Scientific Sessions

Rene Quiroz, MD, FASE

Thanks to support from the American Society of Echocardiography Foundation (ASEF), the Council on Vascular Ultrasound introduced travel grants to encourage those interested in vascular ultrasound to assist fellows, students, or technologists with funds to attend the Annual Scientific Sessions. This year, travel grants to attend the 26 th Annual Scientific Sessions in Boston were awarded to Mandeep S. Randhawa, MD and Amanda Dillon, RDCS, CRVS, CRCS.

I was fortunate to be a recipient of the 2012 travel grant a few years ago and can attest to its impact on my involvement with the ASE. I am now an active member of the Council on Vascular Ultrasound and routinely attend and participate in the Annual Scientific Sessions. The following is a brief summary of the travel award recipients’ thoughts on the travel grant:

Dr. Randhawa: “Vascular medicine introduced me to the world of sonography. Thanks to the ASEF and generous travel grant from the Council on Vascular Ultrasound, I was able to travel to Boston this past June to attend the Annual Scientific Sessions. This conference provided me the opportunity to socialize with my attendings and make new acquaintances in this field. As a vascular medicine fellow, I am of the view that vascular medicine has a great future in combined practice with cardiology. In particular, the imaging branch of cardiology can further expand its horizons by learning vascular sonography.

“The Scientific Sessions not only provided the opportunity to know the latest advances and research data, but also how the experts analyze and discuss the data. I strongly encourage young vascular physicians to attend this session to learn about the upcoming newer technology and most importantly, the scope of the vascular field.”
