We thank Dr. Biteker and colleagues for their interest in our article and thoughtful comments. As they mention, both elevated levels of cardiac troponins and B-type natriuretic peptide are associated with adverse outcomes in infective endocarditis. Unfortunately, we do not have this information in all our patients. Our database started in 1996, and we are recording B-type natriuretic peptide and troponin values since the past few years.
