PP-166 The Relationship between Carbohydrate Antigen 125 and Left Ventricular Echocardiographic Parameters in Stable Chronic Systolic Heart Failure Patients: A Comparative Study with NT-pro BNP

Objective

Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) is a glycoprotein which is synthesized by serous epithelial cells. It has been shown to be increased in some malignant and non-malignant conditions. Its serum level is elevated particularly in congestive chronic heart failure (HF) and also acute HF patients. Although it has been suggested that CA 125 may have a prognostic value, studies which evaluated its relationship with echocardiographic parameters in chronic stable HF patients are limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between CA125 and echocardiographic variables and to compare it with NT-pro BNP.

Methods

42 patients with reduced ejection fraction heart failure (HFREF) were included to the study. Patients were clinically stable and compensated at least 3 months follow up. Patients with disease and clinical conditions that could be associated with elevated serum levels of CA 125 were excluded. Echocardiographic data of the patients were recorded and compared to CA 125 values. Additonally serum levels of NT-pro BNP were measured. Correlation analysis of CA-125, echocardiographic parameters, and NT-pro BNP were done.
