Objective
Autonomic nervous system has an important role in neurally mediated syncope. Heart rate variability (HRV) is affected by the sympathetic and parasympathetic stimuli and evaluated as an indicator of cardiac autonomic tone. In this study, we evaluated whether patients with bradycardic response during tilt table test has altered HRV parameters.
Methods
124 consecutive patients who underwent the tilt table test for evaluation of syncope and eligible to our criteria included in the study. All patients had 24 hour holter monitoring before the test. Patients with medications and diseases that can affect HRV excluded from the study. Patients are divided into three groups according to tilt table response: group 1 with the negative test (N:70), group 2 with bradycardic response (VASIS type1, 2a and 2b)(N:41), and group 3 with pure vasodepressor response (VASIS type 3)(N:13). Time domain HRV parameters (SDNN, SDANN, SDNN index, RMSSD, pNN50) of three groups were compared.
