PP-127 Atrial Fibrillation in Healthy Young Adult after Vodka Red Bull Consumption




Objective


Vodka Red Bull (also known as Vodka and Red Bull, Raging Bull, Speedball, Supercharger, Vod-Bomb, Vod Bull, Voddy Red, Russian Bull, Echo, Heart Attack Special, Vegas Dreams) is a caffeinated alcoholic beverage consisting of energy drink Red Bull and varying amounts of vodka. It is popular among 18- to 30-year olds in bars and nightclubs around the world. There is possible association between the consumption of highly caffeinated drinks and alcohol with the development of various cardiac arrhythmias Herein, we report a case of atrial fibrillation in healthy young adult after Vodka Red Bull consumption.




Methods


A 24-year-old male with no significant past medical history presented with persistent heart palpitation to emergency department. He had no known illness and denied drug ingestion. He reported to drink 2 glasses of Vodka Red Bull at a party yesterday. Physical examination revealed an irregularly irregular heartbeat at 150 beats per minute with no murmurs. Electrocardiogram revealed atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response. Cardiac biomarkers were unremarkable, and serum electrolytes, thyroid-function tests, and a lipid profile were normal. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a structurally normal heart.
