This study was a cross-sectional study in December 2014. A questionnaire was developed about demographics, drug use and their dietary salt intake of a total of 101 hypertension patients by researchers, and admitted to them with the face to face interview in the cardiology department. The study included patients with over 35 years of age.

This study was a cross-sectional study in December 2014. A questionnaire was developed about demographics, drug use and their dietary salt intake of a total of 101 hypertension patients by researchers, and admitted to them with the face to face interview in the cardiology department. The study included patients with over 35 years of age.
Results
The mean age of the patients included in the survey was 62.9±11.2 years. Male participants were 51.5% of patients (n=52) and female were 48.5% (n=49). The median of duration of hypertension was 9 (minimum 2 months, maximum 40 years) years. The patients who lived in rural areas were 57.4% and in cities 42.6%. The participants who used the drugs regularly were 92.1%. Paying attention for salt restriction patients’ ratio was 39.6%. The 30% of those who do not pay attention to salt restriction said that they did not know that they should restrict salt. Although 69% of people living in rural indicate salt restriction, 48.8% of those living in the city was paying attention (p=0.041). There was no significant difference between regular drug use and adaptation to salt restriction with sex (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between living in rural areas or the city with regular drug use (p>0.05).
