PP-092 Hypertensive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy -Is it a Part of Systemic Hypertension or Genetic Abnormality?

Topol in 1985 described a syndrome called hypertensive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that included severe concentric cardiac hypertrophy, a small left ventricular cavity, and supernormal indexes of systolic function without concurrent medical illness or ischemic heart disease. Hypertensive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may be a distinctive cardiac condition resulting from hypertension.

Aims and Objects

Patients with Long-standing systemic hypertension with inappropriate left ventricular hypertrophy were selected for this study. We tried to find out, is it a part of Systemic hypertension or Genetic abnormality. Genetic study was done in those patients to find out whether they differ from the usual hypertensive population.

Subjects and methods

The study was conducted over 15 months from 1st September 2011. 27 Patients with age between 20-50 yrs of either sex with hypertension on medications for 5 years and severe concentric left ventricular hypertrophy (wall thickness, ≥1.6 cm )were selected. From these patients we collected blood samples for detailed genetic study. Patients with systemic illness, cardiac failure, renal failure and pregnant women were excluded.
