OP-187 Evaluation of Serum Paraoxanase and Arylesterase Activities before and after Surgical Revascularization in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease and Comparision of the Levels with Those Having Normal Coronary Angiogram

Objective

Paraoxonase (PON) is a high-density-lipoprotein associated enzyme with antioxidative and anti-atherogenic properties. Few studies have evaluated the PON activity in coronary artery disease (CAD) before and after revascularization therapy. We aimed to examine the serum PON and arylesterase activities in patients with CAD undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG) in comparison with subjects having normal coronary arteries (NCA), and to assess changes in enzyme activities six months after the surgery.

Methods

30 subjects with NCA and 34 patients with CAD undergoing CABG were enrolled into the study. Blood samples from patients of the study group were obtained before and 6 months after the surgery, and from the control group immediately after coronary angiography to measure serum PON and arylesterase activities. Their activities were measured by spectrophotometrically.
