OP-178 Galectin-3 Levels in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and the Relationship with Left Ventricular Mass Index and Function

Background

In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) cardiac fibrosis is an important contributor of adverse left ventricular (LV) remodelling and arrhythmias. Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a novel marker of cardiac fibrosis and inflamation. In this study we investigated the levels of Gal-3 in patients with HCM and control subjects and assessed the relationship between Gal-3 levels and echocardiographic indices using strain echocardiography.

Methods

Forty patients with HCM and 35 healthy control subjects were enrolled. Global LV strain and strain rates, LV mass index (LVMI) of all subjects were assessed by echocardiography. Galectin-3 levels of all subjects were measured.
