OP-133 The Relationship between HbA1c and Atrial Fibrillation after Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery in Diabetic Patients

Objective

Diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for mortality and morbidity after off-pump coronary bypass grafting (OPCAB), and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is the most convenient marker for monitoring glycemic control among diabetic patients. There has not been sufficient examination of the correlation between preoperative HbA1c levels and postoperative AF. We aimed to determine the association between preoperative hemoglobin A1c and AF after isolated off-pump coronary bypass grafting.

Methods

72 diabetic patients who underwent isolated OPCAB at Dıskapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital from January 2012 to june 2014. We were retrospectively analyzed correlation between the level of preoperative HbA1c and postoperatif AF. We divided these patients into 3 groups according to the preoperative HbA1c levels. The cutoff points for the groups were as follows: Group 1, 3.8–6% (n =26 ); group 2, 6.1–8% (n = 32); group 3, 8.1–12% (n =14 ). No significant differences in baseline characteristics, angiographic findings, or operative parameters were apparent among the 3 groups.
