OP-114 Mitral Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (MAPSE) Might be Associated with Exercise Capacity in Healthy Subjects

Background

Mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) is quite simple and an easily obtainable M-mode derived echocardiographic marker of LV longitudinal function, and has been suggested as surrogate measurement of LV function. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship with MAPSE and exercise capacity in healthy subjects.

Material-Methods

The data of healthy subjects undergoing treadmill exercise test and free of symptoms of angina chest pain were retrospectively analyzed. Routine echocardiographic examination performed at rest before exercise was evaluated. Also, MAPSE measured from atrioventricular plane corresponding to the lateral left ventricular wall using the apical 4-chamber view on M-mode echocardiography was included in this evaluation.

Results

A total of 54 healthy subjects ( 27 male, and mean age 41.20 ± 16.95 years) were evaluated. Mean exercise duration time was 10.56 ± 3.36 min and mean METs was 12.36 ± 3.52. Mean MAPSE measurement was 12.33 ± 1.40 mm. Univariate correlation analysis showed that MAPSE was significantly correlated with BMI (r= -0.321, p=0.018), exercise duration (r= 0.589, p < 0.001), maximum heart rate (r= 0.663, p <0.001), age (r = -0.568, p <0.001), METs (r= 0.628, p< 0.001), LVIDd (r= -0.307, p= 0.024), Mitral EA ratio (r= 0.430, p= 0.001) and Mitral EDT (r= – 0.273, p= 0.046). In multivariate linear regression analysis, only METS [adjusted OR (95% CI) = 0.306 (0.003 – 0.241), p= 0.045] and maximum heart rate [adjusted OR (95% CI) = 0.437 (0.009 – 0.046), p= 0.005] independently correlated with MAPSE.
