OP-056 Plasma Thiol-Disulfide Homeostasis in Patients with Cardiac Syndrome X

Objectives

The cardiac syndrome X (CSX) is characterized by microvascular dysfunction which associated with oxidative stress. Thiols are mainly responsible for the intracellular antioxidant status. They are sulfur analogs of alcohols and found as frees (thiols=SH) and oxidized from (disulfide=RSSH) in plasma. This study was conducted to investigate whether there is dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis in patients with CSX.

Methods

Forty-eight patients with CSX, 40 age-gender matched controls were included in the study. Plasma thiols (SH) and disulfide (SHHS) levels were measured by a novel and automated spectrophotometric method. The thiol-disulfide homeostasis was calculated as SH/SHHS ratio.
