Methods
The study included 42 hypertensive patients, divided in 2 groups: group A ( 21 patients), with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and sigmoid septum and group B ( 21 patients), without this condition. The age for both groups was between 65 and 87 years. The exclusion criteria were the following: diabetes mellitus, actually smoker or alcohol drinker, previous stroke or myocardial infarction, associated atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure. They were monithorized for 24 months through clinical examination, electrocardiogram, transthoracic echocardiography, laboratory parameters, quarterly performed and with cerebral computed tomography, every 6 months. The antihypertensive agents were represented by betablockers, fixed combinations: angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors associated to diuretics / calcium chanel blockers; angiotensin II receptor antagonists combined with calcium chanel blockers. The classes of antihypertensive medicines were recommended according to the severity of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and to patient’s particularities.
