Methods
A retrospective study of 249 consecutive patients was performed between February 2009 and May 2013. The mean age of the patients was 36 ± 16 years. The diameter of the defect was measured by transthoracic echocardiography, and the occluder was selected according to echocardiographic results. The modified step in our procedure is that the extra stiff guide-wire was placed in the superior vena cave and the delivery sheath was advanced over the guide-wire into the superior vena cave. Then the sheath containing the occluder crossed the defect without guide-wire. Clinical and echocardiographic evaluation was carried out in the follow-ups. The follow-up rate was 100%, with mean time was 18.1±12.9 months.
