Introduction
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and systemic thromboembolism is more common in patients with atrial septal aneurysm (ASA). However, the link between AF and ASA has not been conclusively investigated. Relationship between Inter- and Intra-atrial conduction delay and AF have been demonstrated. In this study, We aimed to investigate the relation of ASA with Inter- and Intra-atrial conduction delay.
Methods
Our study population consisted of thirty-three patients and thirty-two healthy control. Inter- and Intra-atrial conduction delay were measured by tissue Doppler imaging. We defined ASA as a protrusion of the aneurysm of >10 mm beyond the plane of the atrial septum measured by Transthoracic echocardiography.
Results
Patients with ASA and healthy control group were matced in regard to age and sex. Patients with ASA has significantly longer inter-atrial delay (17.3±7.1 vs 13.1±6.2, p=0.01)however intraatrial conduction delay (1.6±2.4 vs 1.2±3.3, p=NS) were comparable between groups.
