OP-037 Heart Rate Variability in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective

Diabetic otonomic neuropathy is an important and conspicuous long term complication of diabetes mellitus. Its progression may be so slow without any clinical symptoms so it is difficult to detect early. Currently a measurement which called heart rate variability(HRV) and be measured from recorded data during electrocardiographic monitorization is widely used. Heart rate variability is an easy, repeatable, confidental method. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the HRV using Holter electrocardiographic monitorization of the patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus(DM),to compare with the healthy control group. We also investigated the factors that affect HRV.

Methods

A total of 28 patients who were following up in the Pediatric Endocrinology Department of Ankara Sami Ulus Pediatric Hospital and 27 controls who were admitted to Pediatric Cardiology Department of the same hospital for different reasons whose echocardiografic findings and Holter monitorization data were normal were enrolled in this study. In Holter monitorization recordings, rhythm and QTc analyses were also evaluated.
