OP-030 Management of Cardiovascular Diseases in Adults and Children in Sub-Saharan Africa




Objective


The aim of the study was to investigate the occurrence, pattern and management of cardiovascular diseases both adults and children in sub-Saharan Africa.




Methods


A population of 1838 adults and 2106 children were consulted. The patients were aged between 5 days and 63 years old, giving a mean of 38,7 ± 8 years old. Female were representing 54,2% of the total population.Hypertension was diagnosed in 46,5% cases. Hypertension was represented in children like a complication of coarctation of the aorta or a polycystic kidney. In adults, hypertension is the leading disease, follow by arrhythmia, then congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure was diagnosed in 19,6% cases. Congenital heart diseases was diagnosed in 5,9% of studied population. The most diagnosed pathology was isolated ventricular septal defect and tetralogy of Fallot. Post-rheumatic valvulopathies and congenital heart diseases are the first aetiological factor of congestive heart failure in young.
