Background
Behçet’s disease (BD) is a systemic vasculitis, capable of involving all types of vessels. BD is associated with endothelial dysfunction and chronic inflammation. The neutrophil-lymphocyte(N/L) ratio was introduced as a marker to determine inflammation in various disorders. Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is an endothelial cell dysfunction parameter which may also be associated with atherosclerosis. We aimed to investigate the relationship between cIMT values and N/L ratio in patients with Behçet’s disease without overt cardiovascular involvement.
Methods
In the present study, 137 subjects (65 patients with BD and 62 control subjects) were enrolled. N/L ratio was measured as part of the automated complete blood count being related with increased inflammation. cIMT was measured by recording ultrasonographic images of both the left and the right common carotid arteries.
