PC – Pressure control

The ventilator delivers the same pressure during every inspiration, and this pressure is maintained throughout the inspiratory cycle. The resulting tidal volume depends on the set pressure level, the inspiratory time, and the patient’s lung mechanics. The mandatory breath occurs at a preset frequency or when triggered by the patient. Expiration starts after termination of the inspiratory time or when the upper pressure limit is exceeded.

PRVC – Pressure regulated volume control

This mode combines the advantages of volume controlled and pressure controlled ventilation. The ventilator delivers a preset tidal volume at a constant pressure which continuously adapts to the patient’s lung mechanics. The preset tidal volume occurs at a preset frequency or when the patient triggers the ventilator. Expiration occurs at the end of inspiration or when the upper pressure limit is exceeded. The delivered tidal volumes can be higher than the preset tidal volumes.
