Neurovascular intervention

Introduction

Recent evidence indicates that the use of embolic protection devices (EPD) increases the safety of carotid artery stenting (CAS) which may be associated with clinically silent cerebral lesions. Data comparing the efficacy of different EPD is not yet available.

Objective

(1) To evaluate radiological and clinical findings of new cerebral ischemic lesions in patients with severe carotid artery stenosis undergoing CAS with EPD [MoMa (Invatec), Defender (Medtronic), and Boston FilterWire EZ systems]; (2) to assess the efficacy of different EPD in the prevention of embolization.
