Moderate-to-Severe Mitral Regurgitation
A 71-year-old man complains of shortness of breath with chest pressure for 4 days. Past medical history includes end-stage renal disease on dialysis for the past 20 years, congestive heart failure, a biventricular pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, cirrhosis of the liver, and a history of ischemic cardiomyopathy with prior percutaneous coronary interventions.
Routine echocardiography demonstrates moderate-to-severe functional mitral regurgitation. Considering the risk of open heart surgery, a MitraClip (Abbott, Abbott Park, Illinois) procedure was performed to treat his mitral regurgitation.
