Long-term follow-up registry of percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty in severe mitral stenosis comparing Inoue versus multitrack balloons

Objectives

We sought to detect outcomes of patients with severe mitral stenosis on the long-term follow-up submitted to percutaneous balloon dilation using Inoue vs. multitrack balloons.

Background

Heart failure and death are a common problem in patients with mitral stenosis in developing countries. Since 1982, percutaneous dilation of the mitral valve using a balloon catheter has become a therapeutic alternative to open or closed heart surgery. Although the efficacy of percutaneous mitral valve balloon dilation is well established with the Inoue balloon, its comparison with multitrack balloon is needed.
