ASE 2017-2018 Board of Directors and Society leaders gathered for their annual meeting in Baltimore.

ASE’s Immediate Past President, Susan E. Wiegers, MD, FASE , Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, delivered the 28 th Annual Edler Lecture “The Point of Care.”





A highlight of ASE 2017 was the Value of Echo Summit. Here ASE Past President Neil J. Weissman, MD, FASE , presented “Bundling and Episodes of Care: Where Does Echo Fit In?”





Victor Mor-Avi, PhD, FASE , University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago, IL, presented “Noninvasive Assessment of the Hemodynamic Significance of Coronary Stenosis Using Fusion of 3D Echocardiography and Cardiac Computed Tomography.” This presentation detailed the results of the ASE Foundation Research Grant he received in 2014.





Taking advantage of the close proximity of Baltimore to Washington, D.C., ASE Hill Day, organized by the ASE Advocacy Team headed by Committee Chair Michael L. Main, MD, FASE (back row, third from the left), gave ASE members an opportunity to meet with their elected officials to advocate on behalf of their patients and to ensure the voice of the cardiovascular ultrasound community is heard in the ever-changing healthcare environment. The afternoon Chalk Talk on Monday featured Dale Burkett, MD, Shahryar M. Chowdhury, MD, Michael V. DiMaria, MD, FASE, Wyman W. Lai, MD, MPH, FASE, Beth F. Printz, MD, PhD, FASE , and Ritu Sachdeva, MBBS, FASE , discussing “Choosing an Academic Career in Pediatric Echo.”





The Echovation Challenge 2017 competition featured five teams who presented their projects, ranging from an app to facilitate adoption of the diastology guidelines, to solutions to improve echo reporting and enhance endocardial visualization. Team ReVISION (center), from Hungary, was awarded first place for their method to enable a more robust understanding of right ventricular function. Team Echo Today (right) took home the second place and Team Diagnostic Guidance (left) placed third.





Representatives from ASE’s International Alliance Partners, along with ASE leaders, enjoyed the International Round Table discussion at ASE 2017. ASE currently has 23 International Alliance Partners.
