Dilated, Hypertrophic and Restrictive Cardiomyopathies

Dilated Cardiomyopathy

  • LV/RV size increased, global hypokinesis (SWMA may present), mural thrombus.
  • Low CO causes decreased MV separation, AV cusp closure is tapered.
  • Spontaneous echo contrast in LV on 2D images.
  • Diastole: impaired relaxation;pseudonormal or restrictive pattern if more advanced.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Myocardium appears granular; cavity is small, with near complete systolic obliteration.
