Get ready for the ASE Scientific Sessions 2010 in sunny San Diego! This beautiful location is just the icing on the cake for what is shaping up to be a phenomenal national meeting. Drs. Vera Rigolin and Roberto Lang, along with a superb program committee, have put together a very comprehensive program, with something to satisfy everyone’s particular interests. The meeting is a day shorter than in the past in an effort to make the most of your time. If you have never attended the ASE’s Scientific Sessions—this is the year!
Saturday begins with a heart valve symposium, congenital track, sonographer track, two day adult echo exam prep, and the second year of the Sonographer Registry Review.
The valve symposium, Heart Valve Innovations & Clinical Approaches, is designed to appeal to those interested in the integration of clinical evaluation, surgical treatments and echocardiography for the evaluation of valvular heart disease. It will be presented by world renowned cardiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, interventionalists, and sonographers. You won’t want to miss it.
The congenital track spans all four days of the meeting and includes a comprehensive series of topics on pediatric and adult congenital heart disease. If this is your area of interest, you will be kept busy!
For those studying for board or registry exams, the adult echo exam prep and the Sonographer Registry Review sessions are for you. These sessions are ticketed, so make sure you sign up early.
The sonographer track opens on Saturday afternoon. Throughout the meeting, sonographers will be treated to superb presentations by experts in the field covering everything from chamber quantification, diastology, contrast, pericardial disease, adult congenital heart disease, and research careers, as well as the role of sonographers outside the echo lab. In addition, on Sunday there will be a session on the evolution of echocardiography, with legendary speakers chosen specifically for each generation—be sure to be there early, as the session is sure to fill up quickly.
For some early morning fun, come meet members of the sonographer council for two informative sessions on Monday and Tuesday mornings where we will discuss current issues and professional development. As always, there will be a continental buffet breakfast where you can grab coffee and a muffin on your way!
It Takes a Village… An IMAGING Village!
One of the most exciting elements to this year’s Scientific Sessions is the creation of an Imaging Village within the exhibit hall, featuring live scanning, computer software demonstrations, lunch and learn sessions, and small group learning presentations. The Exhibit Hall and Poster Sessions open on Sunday morning; come get a cup of coffee and learn while networking with other attendees.
Sessions to Note
This year we will have a session specific for nurses in addition to the IV insertion instruction sessions that will be held in the exhibit hall.
On Monday and Tuesday, the core curriculum, case studies and how-to sessions will be held. These sessions are filled with guidelines-based presentations to fine-tune your echocardiography skills and to broaden your understanding of why we acquire the information we do.
Once again there will be a vascular track for those interested in how to perform vascular ultrasound, review cases and understand risk assessment.
Ticketed hot breakfast sessions on Monday morning will covering a wide range of topics. For a $40 fee you can sign up when you register; do it early to ensure your spot.
As always, special annual lectures and awards ceremonies will be held on Sunday and Monday mornings, with the Edler Lecture given by ASE Past President William Zoghbi, MD on Monday, and the Feigenbaum Lecture presented by Victor Mor-Avi, PhD on Tuesday. These lectures promise to be quite inspiring, don’t hit the snooze bar!
