An Update from the Chair

Patrick D. Coon, RCCS, RDCS, FASE

There is a lot happening in ASE these days with respect to how we, as cardiac sonographers, hone and practice our craft. The leadership under Susan Wiegers, MD, FASE, FACC has been very busy so I thought it might be a good idea to give you an update on some of the happenings:

Industry Roundtable (IRT) Think Tank Meeting in March 2016

Together with Sue Phillip, RCS, FASE and other members of the IRT Committee, we will be meeting with a wide variety of our industry partners in NYC to discuss how we can best work with industry to continue to move our profession forward and insure we have the technological advances needed to provide the best patient care. As of today, the exact topics have not yet been decided, but they will focus on new technologies, improvement of existing technologies, and ultrasound-related new industries (structural heart disease for example). We will certainly keep you updated on what is happening within the IRT.

Board of Directors’ Retreat in November 2015

ASE’s BOD will be meeting in November to discuss a variety of topics, most notably point of care (POC) echo. It will be interesting to see how our roles as sonographers expand as point of care echo becomes more widely utilized. How will we train future users of POC echo especially in the ER and ICU settings? How will POC echo be utilized in the catheterization lab for TAVR, etc? These are just a few of the topics that will be discussed.
