ECG 123 A 20-year-old man is seen in the A & E department with a head injury; there is a vague story of a collapse. What does the ECG show?

Answer 123

The ECG shows:

• Sinus rhythm, rate 55/min – P waves best seen in lead V₁

• The first complex is probably a ventricular systole

• Short PR interval

• Left axis deviation

• Broad QRS complexes (160 ms) with a slurred upstroke (delta wave), best seen in leads V₂–V₄
